Winter league underway at Islandderry

A BRILLIANT day was had at the second round of the winter league on Saturday at Islandderry Fishery, Dromore. There was a big amount of quality fin perfect trout being caught around the 6lb weight.

David Clements, Banbridge, hooked into 2 of these beauties one at 6lb4 and one at 7lb14 a 2lb2 give him a total 3 fish bag weight of 16lb4 and 1st place. David’s boat partner and dad Rab Clements was also in good form, releasing a fish at 6lb12 to add to his 3 fish bag of 13lb6 to give him third place, just missing out on 2nd place to Lisburn Angler Ronnie McFadden who released a 6lb6 fish which helped him get a 3 fish bag weight of 13lb7. Fourth place went to Andy McCandless, Dromore who netted a fin perfect fish of 7lb14 giving him a 3 fish weight of 13lb1. Bill Johnston had a lovely trout at 8lb14, but unfortunately had already bagged up so couldn’t count it and had to settle for 5th place with 3 fish for 12lb10.

Also releasing good sized trout were Davy Thompson, Lisburn who landed his personal best fish at Islandderry weighing in at 6lb11, Stuart McMurran, Dromore, was fishing from the jetties to release a 6lb2 fish which was one of 16 returned and Noel Roberts, Portadown released a 5lb trout. Noel finished the 2nd round in 8th place but has still retained the overall first place in the league, but is now joint with Bill Johnston.
