Dervock were on home territory on Saturday when they played Ballycastle United at Paddy’s Park and they secured the full three points after a 4-2 win.
There was little between the two sides as the game got underway with little to write home about for the first 20 minutes or so.
A Trevor McLernon free kick soon changed things when the ball was fumbled by the Ballycastle keeper.
Dervock’s Sammy McConaghie wasted no time, puncing on the loose ball to fire home for the opener.
Suddenly the game was a lot more interesting and it was only a few minutes later when Dervock went two up thanks to Sammy McConaghie who headed home a perfect cross from Nathan Patton to make it 2-0.
Ballycastle United did everything they could to get a goal back but they were hit with a sucker punch just on the blow of half time when a superb free kick from Ryan Boyd saw the home team three goals to the good.
After the interval Ballycastle came out determined to get something from the game and they did so thanks to Cathal Higgins who slotted home with 15 minutes of the second half gone.
Dervock should have been on the scoresheet again with around 20 minutes of the remaining when the referee pointed to the spot. However, the Ballycastle United keeper produced a great save to deny the home side.
With ten minutes of the game remaining Dale Armstrong put the game out of Ballycastle’s reach when he managed to stab the ball home from inside the crowded box to make it 4-1.
To their credit Ballycastle didn’t give up and they scored their second when Donal McCloy found the net with a superbly taken free kick in injury time to leave the final score 4-2.
Despite the slow start, this proved to be a very entertaining game with Dervock more than happy to get three points in the bag.
On Saturday (26th September) Dervock are away to the White Eagles.
