Surprise results

The defeat of a high flying Wolfe Tones side at the hands of Annaghmore and Clan na Gael’s reversal at Davitt Park against Clonmore raised more than a few eyebrows.

In Division One while Maghery’s victory over Sarsfields could not be described as a shock result it was surprising considering that the champions were without the injured David Lavery and both Aidan and Stefan Forker. Elsewhere Eire Og remain unbeaten, St. Peter’s secured a commendable draw against Pearse Ogs but Clann Eireann suffered a heavy defeat against Tir na Nog. Normally at this time of year league results can be a bit patchy, but Armagh manager Paul Grimley’s decision to allow county players to line out for their clubs has brought a level of consistency to the league structures.

This weekends fixture list give no respite to teams who are attempting to secure league points. In Division One Sarsfields have a real tough encounter against Granemore who defeated Whitecross last Friday night, pointless St. Paul’s who lost to Killeavey last weekend will travel to Dromintee. St Peters visit Armagh Harps, Clan na Gael travel to Madden, Clann Eireann are away to Grange and Eire Og host Silverbridge at Pinebank.

Following next weekends round of games, county football will take centre stage as Armagh enter the fray against Cavan in the Ulster series when the sides meet in the preliminary round on Sunday May 19th.

Supporters will have a earlier than normal trip to Cavan, on the day the County Minor side will provide the curtain raiser at 12.15pm followed by the senior game at 2pm.
