On Wednesday evening, Springwell Running Club held their inaugural ‘Purple Ladies 5K’ in Ballymoney.
Springwell’s Alexandra Kirk set the early pace before being overtaken by the experienced Anne Paul (City of Derry) as they approached the new footbridge at Ballymoney Station.
Anne went onto win in 19:15, closely followed by hot prospect Alexandra who took 2nd place in 19:40.
Another talented local lady, Ciara Toner (Springwell Running Club); an eleventh place finisher in last week’s Belfast City Marathon (ladies category), took third in 19:53.
Springwell Running Club would like to thank the race sponsors GES Group, Causeway Route to Fitness, Ballymoney, Flash in the Pan Bushmills, Maine Minerals and Ballymoney Sports Advisory Group for their support.
Thanks also to Colin Coleman (Causeway Physio), Victoria Smyth (Bee Cosy), Pauline Freeman (Revive Complementary Therapies), Joanne Reid (Perfections Day Spa), Andy Deal (Portrush Parkrun) and Brenda Boyle (Nutritionist) for setting up stalls and providing useful advice to the runners.
Thanks also to the PSNI, St John Ambulance and volunteers.
The event was a welcome addition to the sporting calendar in Ballymoney and proved popular with runners from near and far.
