Riada FC were back in league action on Saturday away to Maghera United.
Riada started the game strongly taking it to Maghera from the outset. They got their reward for the early pressure after ten minutes when a hopeful ball into the box from Graham was deflected onto his own crossbar by a Maghera defender and McAleese turned it into the net.
Riada then made it 2-0 five minutes later when a Christie shot was saved by the keeper and Gillen lashed in from an acute angle. Then just two minutes after that Riada went three goals in front when Christie rose highest to nod home at the back post from a Chestnutt corner.
Riada saw out the rest of the half with ease with the defensive pairing of Alexander and Duffy excellent at the back snuffing out anything Maghera threw at them.
Maghera came back into the game at the start of the second period pulling a goal back on sixty minutes when a low shot from the edge of the box found its way past McGaughey in the Riada goal.
Riada then regained their control of the game after this with the midfield three of Dean Brownlow, McCook and Chestnutt working hard in the middle of the park. Kyle Brownlow then picked a lovely ball over the top for Christie to run onto and lob over the advancing keeper. Riada then put the game well and truly beyond Maghera when McCook played Gillen away on the right and his low ball found McCook who scrambled home from close range. This was a good solid performance from Riada and a great start to the new year. The three points earned on Saturday now take Riada level on points with Maghera Strollers and Portrush in second place in the league just three points behind leaders Kilrea.
At this stage, unless the league make further changes, Riada FC have no fixtures until 13th february when they are away to Magherafelt Reds.
