Pigeon notes

LAST week lofts at the top end of the country will again feature at the top of the NIPA Open Result, best reported over the weekend was A & M Boyle who timed their first bird at 14.19pm to record velocity 1417 for the 160 miles, they took 1st & 2nd Ballymoney HPS where over 800 birds were competing and in the Dervock IPS had 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

The loft has been going well all year and just a few years back topped the NIPA from Mallow in the 5 Bird Championship. J Hutchinson & Son and J McDowell & Sons will also be well placed. In the Coleraine area the top loft to date has been J L Madden of the big Coleraine Premier winning all three races to date, and early birds as well. A & R McAuley are making a big move and had a great team result from Roecrea and Terence McCrudden had 1st Coleraine & County Derry (1395).

Andy & Mavis Boyle from Dervock timed their Cheeky Boy top Van Wildemeersch bloodlines best of Playgirl x Vecter the probable 1st Open NIPA winner from Roscrea racing on Roundabout. Their winner was timed at 3.19pm and records velocity 1417 for the 160 miles. They have already won 1st Open NIPA in the Mallow 5 Bird Classic racing to their old address in 2001.

Local fanciers are reminded that collections for Pilmore Beach next week are one hour earlier than usual. Results are still being delivered late to the NIPA Office holding up the publication of the Open Result, the Fax is available till lunchtime on a Sunday and post collects the same day for delivery on Monday, unless like this week a Bank Holiday.

Fanciers are also asked to observe the rules regarding liberating birds close to Airports, for those who obviously don’t know its 8 Miles. The PSNI called with the Crumlin & Dist HPS last week and told them that anyone caught breaking the law would be prosecuted. The Mid Antrim Combine and local area results will be featured on Seven FM Radio on a Sunday afternoon during the Davy King (Kingo) sports programme and Homer will be reporting this Friday night having an interview with Kingo himself.

Liberation in Clonmel was at 11.00am and with helping conditions over the route the leading birds exceeded a mile a minute. Former Kings Cup winner Anthony McDonnell from the Coleraine Premier HPS had the best weekend velocity in the NIPA recording 1768 just a yard ahead of the ace flyer Leslie Madden who had another good card and timed the same bird that last week won 1st Sect & and finished 6th Open NIPA Roscrea. It has been a fantastic two races for the local North West fanciers last week Andy & Mavis Boyle from Dervock had 1st Open NIPA, this week the Coleraine loft of Anthony McDonnell is favourite to take 1st Open NIPA Clonmel.
