Jon (Hutchy) Hutchinson passed away recently but he would have been mightily impressed on Sunday at Bushfoot Golf Club.

The weather was lovely, many members and guests of Bushfoot Golf Club turned out, a new course record was set and over £1,500 was raised for the Macmillan Trust and the Irish Cancer Society.

This was a special day at Bushfoot and a special score was needed to mark it. Trevor McKendry stepped up to set a new course record with a remarkable gross 63, seven under par, for 46 points, to mark Hutchy’s Day properly.

The three handicapper started with a bogey five and a brace of pars but covered the next three holes in five under par! A birdie three on four, birdy three on five and a two on the par five sixth!

Trevor’s birdie three on nine meant he had played the front nine in five under par 30 and had 24 points carded to boot.

His final dropped shot came with a five on ten but then the birdies started again with a two on eleven and a three on thirteen.

The long fifteenth gave Trevor a birdie this time round and he finished the inward nine with a two under par 33 for 22 points. His seven under par 63 sets a new course record for the Club and gave Trevor 46 points, a fitting result for a special day.

Harold Love took second place with a tally of 40 points from his handicap of ten. He dropped three shots over the front nine to have 20 points carded at the turn for home then did the same coming back to get runners up spot with the resulting 40 points.

In third place on 39 points was fourteen handicapper Alexander Murray. His birdie three on the eighth helped him to the halfway point with 19 points scored.

Alexander went one better coming back with 20 points scored even with a no score appearing on the fourteenth. Tom Hayes took fourth spot with 38 points from his 22 handicap. Birdies on the par four eighth and the short eleventh helped Captain Martyn Freeman to a win in the Best Gross category with his round of 77.

The ladies were represented on the leaderboard, Beverly Watton getting top billing for her 38 point return with Deborah Hillis and Alice Trufelli taking second and third placings.
