Outdoor bowling green opened

ON Saturday evening past President Nicky McCaw welcomed members and guests to the opening of the outdoor bowling green, he introduced Mr Jackie Fall as the President and affixed the presidential badge wishing him a very successful and enjoyable year.

Mr Fall in thanking him for his good wishes pinned on him his Past Presidential badge and congratulated him on his very good year in office. He invited his wife Mary to roll the silver jack and deliver the first bowl, this she graciously did saying it gave her great pleasure to declare the green open for the 2010 season wishing all members enjoyable successful bowling during it and also good weather as well.

Past President Miss Bronagh McKee introduced Mrs Irene Hunter as the Ladies President and affixed the presidential badge wishing her an enjoyable year and successful too.

Mrs Hunter thanked her for her good wishes and rolled a silver jack and delivered a bowl to declare the Ladies season open.

At the Club’s Annual General Meeting away back in October those present elected two Honorary Members for services and work to the Club over a look number of years, on Wednesday afternoon the President and Honorary Secretary along with Mrs Jarvis Kennedy visited Mr Gordon Wylie in his home as he is not in the best of health at present and presented him with his Honorary Membership Badge congratulating him and thanking him for his services to the Club both as a player, a worker for the club and as a Committee Member, in the years since he joined in 1963. Gordon thanked both the President and members for bestowing on him this great honour.

The other member Mr Robert Anderson had too gave sterling work to the Club as a Committee Member, Assistant Treasurer, Membership Fee Treasurer, and looked after the Purchasing for the Social Club as well, in the years since he joined the Club in 1978.

The President Jackie Fall had very great pleasure on pinning an Honorary Membership Badge on Robert and thanking him for his years of service to the Club.

Mr Robert Anderson thanked him and the members very much for this honour given to him.

All present were invited to the Social Room by Mr Fall and after all had enjoyed supper served by the Ladies Mr Fall in thanking the members for electing him as President said he looked forward to working with all the members in the best interests of the Club and its members, he thanked the members of Management Committee for all their support and thanked Micky Connor, Brian Hughes, Maurice Logue and Aaron Walker for all their hard work in having been painting, cleaning and tidying up to have our premises looking so well, I thank too our green keeper Denis Devine for all his work done during the winter months on the green and ongoing through the playing season.

I thank very much my wife Mary for delivering the first bowl and declaring the green open and I thank Ken Aiken and Harry Waterson, former work mates, for coming with their wives from Bangor and Dromore for my opening this evening and I thank too my family for being present as well. To Mrs Hunter and the Ladies I thank very much for serving supper this evening and I wish them too good bowling in the season ahead.

To Brian Hughes and Garry Kelly who will be going to play in the British Isles Championships in Worthing in July good bowling to you both and to Mrs Barbara Logue and Garry Kelly who set out for Delhi in India, tomorrow, to play in a preparation tournament for the Commonwealth Games to be held out there in October enjoy yourselves and good bowling to Garry who sets off to Australia when he comes back from India.

I wish all members good enjoyable bowling in the season ahead and ask you all to support the various events to be held this year both on and off the green. Thank you all for coming and a safe journey home.

Ladies President Mrs Irene Hunter thanked Jackie for his thanks and good wishes to the Ladies and expressed her good wishes to Barbara, Brian and Garry in their bowling travels, she thanked the Ladies for electing her as President and their support and looked forward to her year in office.

All members were asked to look the notice boards about friendly games being arranged and depending on the weather play may commence on the green later in the week.
