MOYOLA PARK MOURN CLUB PRESIDENT

Over the years Arthur was a great ambassador for the Club playing a major part in fund raising and assisting with the completion of their new grounds at Mill Meadow.

Arthur played as right half for the Club through the 1940’s and 1950’s and was part of the team that won the Ballymena League 1948/49 and 1949/50 seasons.

One of the highlights which Arthur always recalled was the only Moyola player to score against the great Harry Gregg who went on to play for Manchester United and Northern Ireland. Arthur also played for Connor, Chimney Corner, Hillhead Rovers and Magherafelt Reds.

Arthur and his late brother, David George, were keen supporters of the Club and were sure to be seen parked behind the goals in the former Park both at training and on match days.

In July 2010 the highlight for Arthur was officially opening the ground at Mill Meadow with former player and great friend Barney Devlin, Senior Vice President, Moyola Park Football Club.

Committee members and supporters were amongst those mourning the death of their esteemed President, a sad loss to the Club.

Arthur Martin was also a very highly respected and regarded dog handler, keeping Moyola and District Gun Dog Association in the limelight when he represented Northern Ireland at international level. He was also fortunate enough to qualify for the all Ireland team at Blessington and was adjudged the best dog handler on the day out of a field of 34 dogs from North and South.

It was therefore a very fitting tribute to Arthur when dog handlers, with four black Labradors, from the Mid-Ulster Gun Dog Association walked alongside the cortege to Christ Church, Castledawson.
