McCormick unstoppable taking a hattrick of wins at Barley Stubble meet

Bellarena, Co. Londonderry was the stunning setting for the BDMCs Barley Stubble meeting at the weekend and with full grids in all 14 classes the racing was top class around the fast sandy track.

Like a lot of the riders Unique fit out Husqvarna’s Glenn McCormick was to have his last race outing before the British MX Nationals at Landrake this weekend.

Riding in both the Evo/2 stroke and grade ‘A’ classes the Glenoe rider was virtually unstoppable having some great battles with Ballymoney rider Jordan McCaw.

“It was a great days racing,” said Glenn. “In the Evo races I was riding the Agnew 2-stroke Suzuki and although I had to settle for second best behind Jordan in the opening race I was able to get the better of him in the final two races to take the overall.”

McCormick was unbeaten in the ‘A’ races. It was a close finish in race one and despite McCaw getting the holeshot in race two on the Suitor Auto Fix KTM, McCormick caught and passed him to take the win.

“Jordan made a bit of a mistake when I got in to the lead and it gave me some breathing space to go on and take the win,” explained McCormick.

In the third and final race McCormick hit the front on lap two and went on to take a comfortable treble.

Ballyclare’s Jak Henderson on the BRT/KTM was the top man in the Seniors and grade ‘B’ classes.

“I had a couple of silly crashes in the Senior races but still did enough to take the overall,” said Jak.

He made no mistakes in the grade ‘B’ races winning all three.

MCCNI MEET

Riding the brand new GO-MX 450 Kawasaki the Newtownabbey rider set the second fastest time in practice 0.4 seconds behind Dubliner Jake Sheridan and in his opening race made a great start taking the lead from Sheridan by turn 2 and put in constantly fast laps to cross the line nine seconds clear of his rival.

“I had a disappointing start to the season crashing out of the opening round of the MX Nationals suffering a shoulder injury” explained Jay.

“ I had three strong finishes at the last round of the MCCNI championship at Desertmartin but this was my first win and it felt good.”

After a great start in race two a rear brake problem ruled him out early on but in his third and final race he hit the front again by turn 2 and although Sheridan stayed with him in the early stages he pushed hard to open a winning gap.

A mistake halfway through the race allowed the Dubliner to close to within three seconds but at the flag it was a comfortable win and the overall victory to McCrum.

“I could see that Jake was closing in the later stages of the race but I felt comfortable managing the gap.

“It was a disappointing second race as I would have liked more track time on the new 2021 bike before this weekend’s round two of the British MX Nationals at Landrake.”
