Police arrest Armoy’s 2nd XV’s progress

It was a historic occasion on Saturday at the Limepark ground Armoy, as the Power NI 2nd XV took to the pitch for the first time in 4 years to face the formidable opposition of the PSNI in their first league encounter.

Despite some flashes of brilliant play from the home team, the PSNI visitors ran out as victors by 27 points to 5.

Captain Cormac McCamphill and Vice-captain Damien McClafferty selected a side that included a mix of new youthful players and some older experienced players returning to the club after taking a few season’s break.

The PSNI however proved to be too well drilled in attack and exploited the home side with strong runs both in the forwards and the back line.

Again following on from last week, the set pieces for the home side proved to work very well, but it was the lack of team experience playing together and only a few training sessions that meant there wasn’t the cohesion needed to play as a team and defend against a well drilled side.

However, the try that was scored by Power NI Armoy centre Daniel O’Brien was a great piece of individual brilliance running 30 yards past 5 defenders after an excellent offload from David Linton in the tackle.

Kyle Greenlaw jumped excellently in the lineout to secure plenty of ball and Stevie Bartlett made a welcome return and punched massive holes in the defence with penetrating runs despite taking a knock to the knee early on in the game.

So the conclusion is that there is plenty to build on and although it was a loss, the home side have taken it as a learning curve with points to build on before the 2nd XV face Holywood away this Saturday.

All of the captains and the committee would like to thank everyone that attended the game.

The club would also like to note that the famous “Snail Race” returns to the clubhouse on the 29th September and everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy the event and a few drinks as well.

The next 2 fixtures at Limepark are the PSNI again in the cup on the 22nd September and then the civil service on the 29th September in the league.

All supporters will get a warm welcome and support is most appreciated.
