Rugby will be returning to Lime Park next Saturday (23rd August at 2:30) when a Ballymena select visit Armoy for a preseason training match.
Things have taken an up turn of late at Lime Park with pre-season going well after a stuttering early start in June.
During preseason the wee club has also acquired some new blood to the ranks which will undoubtedly aid them in the fast approaching league programme.
During the summer Armoy have signed the following players - Gareth Wright (from Larne RFC) Eoin Scullion (from Ballymena RFC) Peter Elliott (From Ballymoney RFC) Scott Moffat and Jamie Liken (From Coleraine RFC).
These new players have brought with them a level of experience that would be welcome at any club and we are sure that they will be a great asset to the club as we strive for league and cup honours in the very competitive Minor League East.
After two years of trying to compete in the Qualifying league the decision was made to return to minor rugby in an attempt to get the feel good factor back at Armoy.
“At this early stage the decision would appear to be vindicated as the general atmosphere around the club is one of optimism as we look to the future going into the clubs 40th year,” said a spokesperson.
“Another issue from the last two seasons was the amount of travel involved. This season the furthest away match will be in Newtonards which is only one hour away.
“Minor League East is a very competitive league as it contains teams from some of the biggest clubs in Ulster, they are as follows, Ards 4, Antrim, Ballymoney 4 Belfast Harlequins 4, Belfast High F.P 2, Larne 3, Malone 5, P.S.N.I 2 and finally Randalstown 3. The league campaign kicks off on 06th September when Ballymoney 4 make the short trip to Lime Park.
“As always the club relies on the local support to cheer the team on. We believe we have the team this year to give our supporters something to cheer about and we look forward to seeing you on 23rd August as we take our first steps in our 40th Anniversary year.”
