The first weekend of 2015 at Ballycastle saw the commencement of the ever popular P J Mc Ilroy & Son sponsored Winter League.11 teams of 7 will battle it out over the next 10 weeks.
As in previous years, even though the full 18 holes may be in play, the League will be over Holes 6 – 18 inclusive.
The Club would like to take this opportunity to again thank the sponsors for their continued patronage of this annual competition.
In the Saturday sunshine three 12 handicappers came out on top in Division 1.
Eamon Mc Ilroy (possibly trying to recoup some of his sponsorship!) returned 30 points. He had a very steady round helped by birdies at the 12th and 16th.
David Getty who posted 29 points clinched second place from the Club Vice-Captain Steven Mc Garry who returned a score of 28 points. Steven slipped into third place on countback from Liam Mc Gonigle, Philip Cullen and Liam Mc Lean.
Division 2 was won by Martin Morgan with an excellent score of 35 points. Playing off a handicap of 15, Martin produced a troublefree round with birdies at the 12th & 16th doing his cause no harm whatsoever.
In second place was Gerry Mc Conville on 33 points whilst Paul O’Brien took third place with 31 points on countback from Club Secretary Robin Mc Hugh and Paul Brogan.
Three players contested the winner’s position in the Sunday competition with Martin Mc Guigan coming out on top with a score of 29 points. Playing off a handicap of 20 he completed the back 9 holes in 6 over par - just enough to see off Lawrence Mc Quillan – who also finished with 29 points.
Lawrence himself completed the back 9 in 2 over par despite a nasty 5 at the Par 3 13th.
His score however was sufficient to pip Michael Mc Afee who also returned 29 points to claim third spot.
