Juvenile Cup at Bushfoot

The Bushfoot Juvenile Cup, the last competition of the present season was played on Wednesay 24 August and was followed in the evening by the presentation of the various cups and prizes for the season’s competitions.

The juvenile golf season started back in April when the Bushfoot juveniles competed in the Fred Daly competition against Massereene losing by eight matches to six. The team also competed in the Fred Daly plate competition where they lost narrowly to Hilton Templepatrick.

In the Moyle cup a young and inexperienced Bushfoot team finished fourth behind Ballycastle, Gracehill and Cushendall. Making their Moyle Cup debut this year were Patric Cochrane and Lewis Dobbin.

Patric Cochrane won the Louise McAllister and Robbie Clements won the McAllister and Anderson Cups. The Simpson Cup was one this year by Juvenile Captain, Gregory Warner. The Elliott Cup was won by Ruairi Stirling, the McMillan Juvenile Cup was won by Mathew Jamieson, The Blean Cup match play competition was won by Ruairi Stirling and on the final day the Bushfoot Juvenile Cup was won Lewis Dobbin.

This was the second year of The Juvenile Golfer of the Year based on performance in the nine competitions throughout the year. The winner this year was Anthony Clyde with Patric Cochrane second and Ben Beaumont third.

Again this year a number of juveniles have played regularly and successfully in the adult competitions including representing the club on teams entered in the premier GUI competitions with Gregory Warner and Owen Crooks playing in the Senior Cup Team.

This is the last year of juvenile golf for Juvenile Captain Gregory Warner, Ruairi Stirling and Philip Linnegan and everyone involved with the juveniles at Bushfoot wishes them further success in senior golf competitions.

The juvenile members have benefited this year from regular weekly lessons from professional David Jones. David’s coaching will undoubtedly help to ensure the future success of juvenile golf at Bushfoot.

Although the juvenile competitions are finished for this season it is hoped that the Juvenile players who make up the Fred Daly and Moyle Cup teams will continue to play throughout the winter months to build on the excellent progress they have made this summer.

With many of the players eligible to play again next year the Bushfoot team will again be able to give a good account of themselves in the Fred Daly and Moyle Cup competitions.
