Last weekend Ballymoney U-11 and U-13 teams travelled to Rugby Avenue, Coleraine for their first Ulster Youth League matches of the season.
The U-11s played Rainey and strong midfield play allowed speedy forward Ellie Gibson to get all three goals for the Toon as they beat Rainey with an impressive 3-1 scoreline.
The Ballymoney girls faced Coleraine ‘B’ in their second match and strong defensive work from Kaia Moore and Gemma Guiney ensured that newly recruited goalkeeper Taylor Douglas kept a clean sheet.
Final score was 5-0 to Ballymoney. Ballymoney then faced their toughest match of the morning as they played Coleraine‘s‘A’ team. The girls worked hard with young star Sarah Kirgan putting pressure on the Coleraine defence which resulted in a well deserved goal. A great morning of hockey for the young side as they won all their matches, boosting their confidence for the next Youth League which takes place in Ballymena on November 15th.
Ballymoney U13s got off to a flying start securing a well deserved 3-0 win over Ballymena ‘C’ squad. Ballymoney then played Ballymena ‘A’ team, a much stronger side and the final score was 0-0. Ballymoney then played 3 matches back to back, narrowly losing 1-0 to Donegal side, Raphoe then unfortunately being on the wrong side of a 2-1 scoreline against Rainey ‘A’ team but finished on a high with a 1-0 victory over Rainey ‘B’. A great day of hockey for Ballymoney Minis and Junior Club.
