A LARGE field took to the challenging fairways of Gracehill to enjoy the autumnal sunshine in support of the Friends of the Cancer Centre organised Gracehill’s head professional Ian Blair.
Eoin Sayers playing off a 15 handicap was the winner of the event. With an outward 9 of 18pts Eoin turned on the style on the back 9 accumulating a grand total of 39pts.
Runner-up was visitor Stephen Delargy (11) with 38pts. However, Stephen was a member of Gracehill for many years so his experience obviously proved advantageous. 3rd place also with 38pts was 18 handicapper Pete Cronin.
Eight handicapper Julie Blair with a magnificent tally of 36pts won the ladies prize. Ian Blair would just like to thank all those who took part in the golf competition and the casino night and in particular to those who kindly sponsored the event.
* Lee & Richard fast & furious at Gracehill - Saturday 29th September - Lee Munnis and Richard Bell proved to be the ultimate partnership teaming up to capture the scramble prize at the weekend with a formidable gross score of 62.75.
After playing much of the round in a very steady fashion and at times riding their luck, according to one of their frustrated playing partners, Richard and Lee produced the goods, on the final stretch, finishing eagle, birdie, par, par. It was truly a fast and furious finale to an impeccable round. In second place were Aaron Bell and Geoffrey McLean with a 64.25.
* Sweep - Sunday 30th September - Neilly Greer playing off 11 took the spoils on Sunday with 38pts. After a poor start by Neilly’s standards, he got his act together and finished the front 9 with 19pts.
His back 9 proved to be just as capricious but was enough to beat Jimmy McClenaghan (10) on countback. Jimmy produced a very solid round but on this occasion he came up short by the smallest of margins. David Ussher (15) was 3rd with 36pts. Gross prize went to the irrepressible golfer that is Randal McDonnell with a score of 80.
* Jim Jubilant at Gracehill - Saturday 22nd September - Jim Gillan playing off 11 secured victory in division 1 with a fine nett 69. Making the turn at 5 over Jim really picked up the pace on the back 9 and came home in just 3 over pushing Chris Reid (9) who also had a nett 69 into second place.
Chris produced a very steady round of golf; his Taylor Made clubs were obviously firing on all cylinders! Third place went to Greg Magee (15) with a nett 70. In division 2 John Liggett conquered the course and the field with a superb nett 66. After a consummate front 9 of 2 over John had laid the foundations for his excellent round.
Russell McKessick (19) was 2nd with a nett 69. 3rd spot went to Trevor Kane (20) with a nett 73 - maybe he is making a late charge, well very late! Michael Liken won the gross prize with a 76.
* Sweep - Sunday 23rd September - Ben Napier playing off 5 produced another excellent performance to card 39pts. After a bogey at the 1st Ben produced a string of 9 pars, this was only interrupted by a birdie 2 at the 163 yards par 3 11th.
Beaten into second place on countback was 12 handicapper Richard Bell. Richard produced a very solid round with pars at 2/3 of the holes. Third place went to Stephen Gage (19) with 37pts. Steven Bell secured gross with a 4 over round of 76.
