Ballymoney 0 – Pegasus 0
Ballymoney played Pegasus on Saturday for the second time in two weeks.
The game started at a frantic pace with both sides putting together dangerous attacks in the first five minutes.
After 8 minutes a mistake in the Ballymoney defence led to a 2 on 1 with Ballymoney goal keeper Angela Platt, but the Ballymoney defence rallied and the ball was cleared off the goal line by a recovering defender.
Ballymoney created some clear cut chances of their own with Katie Mullan slicing through the Pegasus defence and passed to Emma Lynch on the penalty spot, but unfortunately she was unable to convert.
As the half came to a close Pegasus pressed again and had several penalty corners.
In fact on the strike of half time Pegasus had a series of 6 penalty corners but superb defence by all of the penalty corner team, and in particular Angela Platt who was outstanding, the ball did not cross the Ballymoney goal line and so the half time score was 0-0.
The second half was end to end for the entire 35 minutes. From the whistle Ballymoney pressed forward, and within 2 minutes the ball fizzed across the circle and Catherine Minihan narrowly missed at the back post.
Ballymoney’s Megan Frazer dominated the centre of midfield and initiated several promising attacks. Indeed after linking up with Nikki Parke in right midfield the ball was passed to Jessica Lynch in a promising positron but unfortunately the Pegasus cleared their lines again. Pegasus had attacks of their own, particularly towards the end of the game, but Gayle Adams in particular stood resolute in defence. Ballymoney continued to press to the final whistle and when Katie Mullan dispossessed a Pegasus defender at the top of the Pegasus circle, she was unaware of the space she had, and so took a quick first time shot and unfortunately this flew over the cross bar. Final score 0 – 0.
