THERE were celebrations galore at Ballycastle Golf Club on Sunday after the club won the 2012 North Antrim Shield by beating Greenacres home and away in this year’s final.
Many congratulations go to Team Captain Victor Young and his squad of dedicated golfers for their superb performances this season.
Meanwhile, conditions were nasty for Saturday’s stableford competition but over one hundred members braved the icy wind with Eamonn Hackett (12) picking up the first prize in section one thanks to his score of 34 points over the sixteen holes in play. Second place in the competition went to George McVeigh (13) ahead of Shay Paul Duffin (10) on count-back after both men recorded 32 points.
In Saturday’s section two competition, Ivor Torrens (14) came out on top with a score of 34 points, Donal Gillan (16) was second and Patrick Campbell (16) third ahead of Martin Morgan on count-back after all three golfers returned 33 points for the sixteen holes.
The weather was far more pleasant for Sunday’s golfers with young Niall McGarry, playing off twelve, leading the way in section one with a total of 37 points. Eoin Donnelly (9) produced a fantastic one under par back nine to help him record a total of 36 points to finish in second place ahead of Owen Kennedy on count-back.
Fifteen Handicapper Neal McAuley birdied the last three holes to record a total of 35 points and win the section two competition with second place going to Paul J. McCloskey (20) for his score of 33 points over the 16 holes.
Rory Bonnar won his second consecutive Midweek Open competition on Wednesday 31st October as he carded 36 points over the sixteen holes to finish one clear of Vincent Gallagher in second place with Declan McCarry in third on a total of 33 points.
