The fourth round of the nine week “Star Fuels” sponsored winter League at the Brown Trout was completed at the weekend.
Team “Paraffin” cruised to victory claiming six league points with an emphatic winning score of 87 points with the top two scores of the week coming from the two Ronnie’s, Ronnie Engall (14) opened with 19 points before returning a level par second nine yielding a further 25,the highlights of his round were birdies at holes 13 and 16 for a total of 44 points.
Just one point adrift Ronnie Milliken (5) opened with an outstanding three under par score first nine giving him 23 points and then added a one over for 20 more, as recorded in week threes report Ronnie was one over gross for the first three rounds of the winter league and now stands one under gross for the first four rounds.(eat your heart out Tiger!!)
On 81 points “Captains Coal” ensured five league points with club captain Denis James (22) continuing his rich vein of form with a fine score of 42 points to ensure third prize in the weeks individual and the highlight of his round was two great tee shots at the two par threes 4 and 18 helping him share the twos kitty. Team captain Jimmy Kelly (9) and M. Laverty (14) each added 39.
“Doubles” with 74 points slipped back to finish third to take four league points with team captain Tom Boyd (8) scoring 39 points with the help of back to back birdies at holes 6 and 7. Robert Orr (12) adding 35.
A further point back on 73 “Burnglow” in fourth place took three league points with team captain Tommy McGowan (8) leading by example with 41 points. Tommy ended on a high note with a birdie two at the last hole to score 23 points over the second nine.
Gary Hamilton adding 32. “Anthracite” with 70 points scored by Colin McConaghie with 37 and Willie Pyper adding 33 took two points and “Phurnacite” with only two cards returned ended up with 69 with best score by Joe Logue with 35.
The team positions after week four stand as follows: “Doubles” 22 “Paraffin” 20 “Captains Coal” 15” “Phurnacite” 13 and “Burnglow” and “Anthracite” 7 points each. Four players shared the twos kitty, D. James (2) R. Milliken (2) R. Engall and T. McGowan.
