St.Mary’s GAC Rasharkin are proud to announce Michael J Hasson will be unveiled as the 35th Ulster GAA President on Saturday 30th January at Ulster Convention in Owenbeg.
This is a tremendous honour for Michael, and a very fitting tribute for him, who has devoted much of his life to the Gaelic Athletic Association. Michael bridges a 65 year gap becoming the 6th Antrim delegate to hold position of President, the last was Belfast Gael Seamus McFerran back in 1951.
Michael, has always represented his beloved Naomh Muire with distinction, a former player and club referee for over twenty five years, who officiated up to Senior Championship level. A club committee member since 1965, he was elected to represent Rasharkin at South-West Committee in 1967, a position he would hold for a further 30 years. In 1997 he was elected Antrim Delegate to Ulster becoming the first person from the club to sit on a Provincial Council. In 2007 he became the first Antrim man to be elected Ulster Council PRO, this was his first step to becoming an officer of the Council. Michael has taken the hard road to his Presidency holding further positions as Treasurer and Vice President.
Michael Hasson is unarguably one of the most valued treasures Rasharkin has ever produced. To achieve this goal of becoming Uachtarán Chomhairle Uladh is just reward for his capabilities and dedication to the Association. This is a great accolade for Michael, his family and our club, Naomh Muire Ros Earcain.
