The margin of defeat may have only been one shot, but they were playing one of the supposedly weaker teams in the competition, South and East Belfast.

Lisburn were eight shots up at the interval, but Nathan Haire was the only second half winner with his brother, Nick, losing by two shots and Paul Reid’s rink collapsing to a 12 shots defeat.

Nathan Haire almost pulled off a saving shot when he trailed the jack with his last bowl, but only managed three shots when four were needed to get a tie end.

D. Carser, N. Marsden, K. Morrison, R. Stubbs10, P. Canning7; the youngest player in the team, David Carser was in top form. Stubbs led 8-2 at the fifth before slipping slightly.

D. Verner, G. Harvey, E. Marsden, G. Stubbs10, J. R. Graham 5: took a 6-2 lead by the fifth and went on to win with something to spare.

S. Irwin, M. Fell, R. Kennedy, N. Graham 8, S. Crawford 8: a closely fought game with Graham leading 5-4 at the fifth but having to settle for a draw.

A. Riley, P. Cairnduff, M. Beattie, N. Haire 10, C. Montgomery 12: Haire was 5-2 ahead at the fifth, but Montgomery came back over the closing ends to get a two shots win.

C. Elwood, J. Mackey, D. Pedan, P. Reid 1, D. Burns 13: young Colwyn Elwood did well in his first match but this was the disaster game with Reid only scoring a second end single. Better forgotten about.

D. Lee, G. Scales, R. Sloan, N. D. Haire 9, P. Gillen 4: just ahead 3-2 at the fifth, Haire finished well for a five shots win which included that unlucky last bowl.
