This weekend at Ballycastle Golf Club, Section One was won by Liam Reilly (1).
Liam got off to a slow start on Saturday and was four over par for the first 11 holes, but birdies at the 12th, 13th, 15th and 18th gave him 36 points.
Liam really came to life in the windy conditions on Sunday, despite another slow start with bogies at the first and third holes.
Liam then fired in six birdies and an eagle and despite a ball out of bounds at the 14th which resulted in a double bogey, his four under par round gave him 41 points and the low section prize.
Kevin Traynor took the Section Two honours with two very steady rounds of 37 points. The highlight of Kevin’s weekend being his birdie two at the long 17th par three which had wrecked many good scores over the weekend. Section Three was taken by Vincent Dowds playing off 19.
Vincent produced birdies at the second and fourth holes over the weekend to hold off any challengers on his way to the prize.
Owen Kennedy won the top gross prize with rounds of 72 and 77 respectively. Owen was very steady as usual with 13 pars, three bogies and two birdies in his first round.
Sunday’s round was always going to be difficult to score well in due to the drastic change in the weather and the difficult conditions but Owen managed to get around in his handicap to shoot 77 and win the gross by a shot from Ciaran Mort.
The Cushendall man had to settle for the second gross prize, after two rounds of 75. Ciaran produced three twos over both days which will soften the blow abit.
