Hamilton in top form at Trout’s winter league

THE sixth round of the nine week “Star Fuels” sponsored winter League at the Brown Trout Golf Club was completed at the weekend.

Scoring improved from the previous week with eleven players playing to or better than their H/Cap. Club V/Captain Gary Hamilton (20) showed the rest of the field a clean pair of heels with an excellent score of 43 points. With steady play Gary had 20 front nine points and added 23 to give him a winning margin of four from father-in-law Ronnie Milliken (4).

After an opening nine for 18 points Ronnie, with the help of birdies at holes 10 & 13, reduced the back nine to a one under par 34 for another 21 edging out four players all scoring 38 points.

After the tiebreak Ronnie’s grandson Mark Dempsey (17) took third prize with nines of 15 and 23 in turn edged out Denis James (20) with 21 over the back nine Jimmy Kelly (9) 19 points each nine and Tom Boyd (8) 20 and 18.

Four players shared the twos kitty: A. Smyton T. McGowan R. Milliken and M. Laverty.

In the battle for team league points team “Burnglow” come out on top with a two card total of 80 with Lyle Harris adding 37 to Gary Hamilton’s 43 claiming them much needed six points.

The team leaders “Doubles” moved further ahead claiming five points for taking second place albeit on count back with a better third card, team captain Tom Boyd and Mark Dempsey each with 38 points for a team score of 76, the same total as “Captains Coal” where team captain J. Kelly and D. James both with 38 point returns.

Team “Paraffin” received three league points after ending up with a two card score of 75 by team captain R. Milliken 39 and Maurice Torrington adding 36. “Anthracite” scored 71 points for 5th. place with best card from L. McCloy with 37 and team “Phurnacite” with a total of 65 had to settle for one point with a return of 65 with J. Logue best with 34.

Team standings after week six: “Doubles” 33 points “Phurnacite” 26 “Captains Coal” 21 “Burnglow” and “Phurnacite” 18 points each and “Anthracite! 10.
