Xmas dinner secured for Liam at Rathmore

Liam Mullan must have been starting to worry about food at Christmas as he felt he had to score an emphatic 44 points to make sure of his turkey at Rathmore on Sunday.

As it was he finished three points up on his nearest rival. Liam drained a putt at six for his birdy two and with just one slip with a six at the par four eighth was able to add 22 points for the outward nine. Good steady golf for the back nine was called for and Liam was not found wanting, he had dropped only two shots early on the back and, even with a nasty no score at fourteen, was still scoring well as he slipped in another birdie two at fifteen to get back his confidence. Liam matched the front nine score of 22 for a tally of 44 overall.

Three back came Uel Loughrey on 41 off his handicap of four. His bogey five at the second was evened up by his birdie four at the long fourth to give Uel 20 points out. The tenth fell to a birdie four and the sixteenth to a three as Uel gathered points. The seventeenth cost him his second dropped shot of the round but he still logged another 21 points for second place on 41. Bobby Scott and Russell Dunlop scored 41s as well but on countback they found themselves in third and fourth places. Bobby scored a birdie three at eight to help him to 21 points out but then added in an unwelcome blank at the tenth. No more birds were scored and a nasty five to finish saw his chance of top spot vanish.

Three handicap Russell Dunlop had a super front nine of 23 points. He birdied five of the first nine holes including two twos to be out in three under par. Before starting the back nine birdie, birdie, a four and another two! Three shots were lost to par after this and ended the back nine one over par for 18 points. David McLaughlin and David Cooke both scored 40 points to win their turkeys as did Andy Herron who was doubly delighted as Leeds had a rare win at the weekend too.
