Neil Fitzsimmons was the overall winner of a very successful Captain’s Day. held at Galgorm Castle Golf Club recently.

Club CaptainKeith Dinsmore welcomed the groups on the first tee and wished them an enjoyable day.

Neil Fitzsimmons (15), Damien Casey (14), Paul McNeilly (16) and Alan Jones (22) were vying for the lead at halfway. They held a commanding lead from Malachy Bellew (7), Kevin McCavera (9), Malachy Kyne (19) and Gareth Marcus (18).

Through the Maple Jones had opened a five point lead over Fitzsimmons who had a double bogey and three pars. Casey was another point behind followed by Bellew and McCavera a further two points down. McNeilly had ‘dings’ at 12 and 13 and was now nine points behind the leader.

With two holes left Jones’s lead was drastically cut to two shots after ‘dings’ at Beechers and the Grove. Fitzsimmons who had been playing consistently well throughout and Casey were putting pressure on the leader. McNeilly was also moving into contention another shot behind.

Fitzsimmons finished bogey, par to win the Captain’s Prize. Jones ‘dinged’ the last where he was joined by an improved Marcus and McNeilly two points behind Fitzsimmons. Marcus with a better back nine took the Runner-Up Prize.
