Page beats the elements at Prehen

Damian Page (24) finally recorded his first ever golf competition victory in the Sunday Society at City of Derry and did it in less than perfect conditions, a strong blustery wind and heavy showers making scoring extremely difficult at the weekend.

Damian scored 21 points on the front nine and then added another 17 on the back nine to take the first place on 38 points.

A four way tie on 37 points decided the next four places with Liam McCafferty (22), Malachy Armstrong (27), Darren Thompson (13) and Graham Hepburn (7) finishing in that order respectively.

The sixth and final place went to Brian McClelland (15) on 36 points.

In difficult stormy conditions Dennis O’Connell (24) came out on top in the Saturday Stableford at Prehen.

He scored 40 points despite blanking the long par five ‘Dermot’s’ and the short par three ‘Quarry’ holes to win on a count back from left-hander Rob Jefferson (12) who was consistency personified returning 20 points on each nine for his score.

Malachy Armstrong (28) took third place with 39 points, the two shots he received at two of the par fives proving vital in getting him on to the podium.

Members are reminded that next Saturday’s (25th October) competition, the last before the clocks change will be a four man team event with the best two scores to count on each hole.
