Jack claims Captain’s 
Day title

FOYLE Golf Club Captain Mr Eddie Ball held his Captains Day on Saturday and the esteem in which he is held at the Club shone through with 215 competitors turning out to play for his wonderful array of prizes.

They enjoyed the Ballyarnett course in wonderful condition with the greens running sharp and true on a very pleasant day everything was in order for good scoring and the inform Mehawl Jack (18) obliged returning an excellent score of 46 points to take the coveted Captains prize, Alister Duncan (220 finished runner up with a fine score of 45 points good enough to have won on another day, with Tommy Bryson (16) returning to form with a fine score of 43 points to finish third.

The gross prize after a break of tie finish went to Damien McKenna (10) after he scored 38 points, the category 0-11 section went to Jack Quigley (10) after he scored 42 points and Kieran Bradley (13) with 42 points claimed the category 12-17 section and Dermot Harkin (19) with 42 points won the category 18+.

The Cormac McGeady (3) with 23 points won the back nine and Thomas Duddy (10) with 22 poiints won the front nine, the juvenile section was won by David Knox (Jun) (14) after he scored 41 points and Ryan Harkin (9) with 36 points was second.

Faughan Valley captain Cecil King (13) with 38 points claimed the visiting captain prize and fellow Faughan Valley member Trevor Lewers (21) with 35 points claimed the captain’s guests prize.

In the ladies section Agnes McLaughlin (18) with 42 points finished in first spot, Alison Kane (11) with 41 points was second and Bernie Rutherford (28) with 40 points was third, while the putting competition went to Stephen Martin.

The captain’s nine hole scramble saw 13 teams turn out with Ciaran O’Doherty, Maurice Temple, Darragh Glynn and Andrew McKeever finishing on 26.85 points, second was Cormac McGeady, Trevor Holmes, Damien McColgan and Sheila McLaughlin who scored 26.95 and Jim McFadden, John Coyle, Dylan Nixon and Cormac Cassidy with 27.35 points claiming third spot.

While today (Wednesday) the Crumley Construction Monthly Medal takes centre stage, on Friday, the Foyle Friday Open Stableford is up for grabs, on Saturday, the Anniversary open Stableford sponsored by Cable & Accessories takes place, while on Sunday the Crumley Construction Monthy Medal is the main attraction.
