On a day when scoring was far from easy, with most struggling to play to their handicap, Leslie led home a select band of high achievers. Amongst them was Paul Martin who lifted the gross prize with a fine 73 and Darren Wylie whose 38 point tally earned him a sectional prize and also contained a hole in one on the seventh which will see him collect a Hugo Boss watch as a momento.

Darren finished runner up in Division 1 behind Clive Cahoon whose 41 point total equated to a career best 75 gross.
In Division 2 Aaron Davidson also had a 41 with David Gibson collecting second with 39 points.

Andrew McKernan’s soujour grazing in the rich savanna of the 18 plus handicappers was always liable to be fleeting and so it proved as he continued his excellent run of form to collect a 43 point total on his way to another prize and another new handicap.

It was also a good day for Dwayne Owens who lifted second spot in Division 3 with 40 points. 
In Sundays Dental Trophy Medal Scratch event James Donaghy lifted the top prize with a 76 followed home by Thomas Patterson on 77 with a better last six holes giving him the nod over third placed Kevin Wilson. Best nett went to Brian Faulkner with a 64.

BATHE ECLECTIC

The 2013 Eclectic, again generously sponsored by Bathe recommenced on Tuesday and for the first time will be played on two nights per week (Tuesday and Wednesday).

With the best score for each hole over the 15 weeks of competition counting towards the competitors final card there is always an element of tortoise and hare involved with early pacesetters finding it difficult to make improvements whilst those a little slower off the blocks often able to make a late surge.

Members may include one Eclectic card in your four qualifying cards for Captains Day which is only five weeks away.

The Presentation of Prizes for each week will take place at 9.30pm on the Tuesday following that competition. Prize-winners MUST be present to collect their prize or the prize will be returned to club funds.

FORTHCOMING FIXTURES

The first leg of the Tyrone Cup, one of Ulster Golfs oldest trophies, dating back to 1890 will be played at Killymoon on Saturday 11 May while the Ferguson Putter will be up for grabs in a Stableford Competition open to Lady members on Sunday 12 May.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS IRELAND

Killymoon Golf Club will be honoured to host some very special visitors on Friday when Special Olympics Ireland will be holding a Regional Golf Event.

Approximately 70 athletes will compete in 6 Skills Events and in addition some athletes will play in 9 and 18 holes competitions. The day will begin at 10am and all members are welcome to come along and support the athletes.

MATCH-PLAY COMPETITIONS

The draws for the Annual Match - Play Competitions have been made and are posted on the downstairs noticeboard.

In all Match-Play Competitions it is the responsibility of BOTH players to arrange the date/time of each match.

In the event of no arrangements being made, the match will take place at 10.00 am on the last date for play. If neither player(s) is/are on the tee at that time the result will be decided by the Competitions Committee by drawing of lots.

The closing date for the Preliminary Round of the Sloane Cup is Sunday 12 May.

No extensions will be permitted.

TEAM EVENTS

The Ulster Four Ball team was in action away to Carrickfergus on Sunday and suffered a 3 and a half to 1 and a half reversal but all is still to play for in the return leg on home soil on May 19th.

Killymoon’s point scorers were Hugh Doyle/Davey Cooper who won 2 and 1 and Ally Nugent and Tony McCann who earned a half only missing out on a win when Ally just failed to convert a Diego Maradonna (nasty little five footer) on the last.

For last years All Ireland winner Jimmy Bruen side it was a disappointing day as they just missed on qualifying for the match play stages of this year’s event by a single shot.

JUNIORS

The Junior Committee requests sponsors for the 9 Holes Saturday competitions at a cost of £10 per sponsor. Any members interested in sponsoring a competition are asked to leave their donations in the envelopes provided behind the Bar or in the Office.

LUCKY LETTERS

The lucky letters this week were BFPW but once again a match wasn’t found and consolation prize winners were Rodney Hutchinson and Catherine Irwin. Next draw this Saturday. Would all ticket sellers please return counterfoils amd monies to the envelopes provided at the bar before 6.30pm on Saturday evening.

FRIDAY NIGHT MIXERS

The first in the series of this year’s Friday Evening Mixers resulted in a victory for the pairing of Lady Captain Oonagh McCoy and her son Lorcan with a return of 30.7 nett.

Runners-up were Paddy and Josephine Donnelly while third place went to Hugh O’Neill and Grainne McBride.

The next event in the series will take place on Friday 17 May. The Online Booking Facility from 17.32 is now open. The Presentation of Prizes will be held at 9pm followed by music in the bar with Paddy Dargan.

In conjunction with this event the Caterer is having a Steak Night available from 7 – 9pm when a Steak, the Trimmings and a Glass of House Wine will be available from £10 per person.
