Gallant attempt by Lisburn but they just miss out on final place

Lisburn’s lady golfers reached the fifth round/semi-final of the Challenge Cup which was played at Roe Park on Sunday August 11.

Their opponents were Donaghadee.

Unfortunately on this occasion Lisburn were on the losing side, however on their way to the semi-final they had some terrific performances with a number of the ladies maintaining unbeaten records.

OVERCOME

They had previously overcome teams from Greenisland, Cairndhu, Newtownstewart and Knock on their way to the semis.

The team has been most ably led by non-playing Captain, Mrs Margaret Boyd with her team comprised from amongst the following ladies: Margaret Walker, Lady President Jill Skelton, Daphne Jones, Emma Porter, Ann Hegan, Freda Douglas, Collen Logan and Lesley Bissett.

The Challenge Cup Team have done Lisburn Golf Club proud and the entire ladies section were thrilled to watch their progression through the tournament.

A big thank-you also goes to the volunteer drivers who drove the bus to the matches and the caddies who supported the players during the semi-finals.

COMPETITIONS

The Challenge Cup team were the last remaining team from Lisburn in the inter-club competitions after the Intermediate team were beaten by Donaghadee in the third round.

The Junior Foursomes also lost out when they were beaten recently by Allen Park.

Thanks are extended by the Captain, Mrs Sylvia McKelvey, to all the team captains who have given of their time and energy to form the teams.

The other captains this year have been Mrs Lynda Eagleson, Mrs Mary Parker, Mrs Maureen Bryson, Mrs Ida Ross and Mrs Sheila Cromie.
