Declan wins Billy Blacker Memorial

The winner with 41 points was Declan McGeown, he went round in a 75 gross score with only three bogeys on his card at the 4th, 6th and 11th holes and with 15 pars it was a very steady round of golf and a welcome return to top form.

In second place with a great round of golf of one under 71 and 40 points was Fintan McAreavey, he did not have a great front nine, finishing three over, but he had a brilliant back nine with four birdies at the 11th 16th, 17th and 18th holes for the best round of the day and continuing his great form.

In 3rd place with 40 points was Matthew Madden. He had 19 points on his front nine, which included two birdies at the 4th and 7th holes and 21 points on his back nine, that contained one birdie, one bogey and seven pars.

The gross prize was picked up by Patrick Lavery just returning from injury with a fine 76, Patrick had only four bogeys on his card and 14 pars a great effort considering the changeable weather.

The 4th prize went to Damien McCluskey with 40 points, he had 21 points on the front nine, with two bogeys and seven pars, and 19 points on the back nine that included six bogeys, two pars and one birdie at the 14th hole.

Fifth prize went to Daryl Patton with 38 points, he had 18 points on the front nine and 21 points on the back nine.

The senior prize was won by Seamus Patton with 38 points.

The junior competition was won by Conor Mc Cabrey (j) with 39 points.

19-28 Paul Marner 38 pts

On the seniors front the team responded well at Greenore after their disappointing performance at Mourne. On a very gusty and showery day, the team put in a great effort and to finish fourth from the ten clubs was a creditable result. #

Outstanding for the locals was the pairing of Neil Walker and Joe Kelly with 36 points, whilst Seamus Patton and John Clake had also a good round with 35 points. Next venue is Edenmore on Thursday 29th and the team are now in a good position to mount a serious challenge to the leading group.

Pierce Purcell

On Sunday the club held the qualifying round of the Pierce Purcell on a beautiful manicured golf course.

With a lot of hard work put in by the green keepers and the club to fascinate this tournament, they were rewarded with a great day for everyone who were involved, and an added bonus of the home team qualifying for the knockout stages of the tournament.

The club would like to thank everybody who helped to organize the event, the Ulster GUI with the chairman Peter Sinclair, the GUI officials George Marsden and Colin McNeill, club captain Frank Gallagher, vice-captain Peter Graham, club secretary Kieran Devlin, all the club council, the green keeping staff at the course for their tremendous hard work, and the staff of the golf 
and ski centre for all their help.
