Ballymena United's friendly match with Derry City, scheduled for Friday night, has been called off following the death of the north west club's former player Mark Farren.

The game has been postponed as a mark of respect to Mr Farren, who passed away earlier this week following treatment for an aggressive brain tumour, and who funeral will take place on Friday.

Attempts to rescheduled the game for Saturday proved impractical.

No new date has been set for the game - which had been arranged as part of Derry’s preparations for the forthcoming Airtricity League season - and it is unclear whether the match will now take place at all.
