Scott walks out with his heroes

Scott Nelson from Coleraine got to experience every young Northern Ireland fan’s dream as he walked out as a McDonald’s Player Escort for the national team’s game against Finland at Windsor Park.

The opportunity to walk out as a Player Escort was provided through McDonald’s new grassroots football website, McDonald’s Kickstart, where you can access once-in-a lifetime opportunities. The website also allows local clubs to secure funding for development projects and gain useful information on coaching or running a club.

Scott got to experience first-hand the excitement of the build up to the game, including being pitch-side as the Northern Ireland team warmed up, before walking out hand-in-hand with Northern Ireland defender Ryan McGivern.

According to Scott he thoroughly enjoyed his big day out: “It was a fantastic experience; I really enjoyed leading the team out and hearing the crowds cheering them on was superb. I loved meeting all the players and walking down the tunnel was an amazing feeling, all my friends were so jealous! Although it was a draw on the night I had a brilliant evening at Windsor Park.”

McDonald’s is celebrating ten years as the Official Community Partner of the Irish FA and through this partnership is helping young footballers shine. The Community Partnership is currently delivering a lasting legacy for grassroots football through ongoing coach creation and education, a new Club Accreditation Scheme, through a series of regional Small Sided Games Centres and through the McDonald’s Irish FA Community Awards which recognise and rewards the unsung heroes of grassroots football.
