Rangers ease past Islandmagee

Carrick Rangers progressed to the last 16 of the Steel and Sons Cup on Saturday afternoon thanks to a 4-0 win over Amateur League outfit Islandmagee.

Michael Hughes’ men took the lead with just nine minutes on the clock when Sencer Yilmaz bundled the ball over the line from a Correy Davidson corner.

Former Crusaders defender Ian West made it 2-0 with the simplest of tap-ins on 20 minutes, again, from a corner.

Rangers then had a goal disallowed with the referee adjudging Yilmaz had fouled a defender when he headed home Davidson’s inch-perfect cross.

On the stroke of half-time, winger Davidson made it 3-0. He latched on to Jonny Addis’ defence-splitting ball before lobbing keeper David Harrison from outside the box.

Addis got his name on the scoresheet midway through second half when he fired past Harrison from the edge of the area.

Island skipper Michael Moore was sent off in the dying minutes of the match after picking up two yellow cards.

Carrick Rangers’ starting 11: Robinson, West, Haveron, Owens, Murray, Harmon, McCloskey, Taggart, Davidson, Addis, Yilmaz.
