Dromara Seconds take league title

The Dromara side travelled to Bryansburn on the Wednesday night previous with the weather more liking to an end of November match than an end of season affair.

They had a reasonably comfortable win against a side who desperately needed the points for differnet reasons. The wind was very strong and it took the Dromara side about 20 minutes to get to grips with it as their final balls were overhit in the opening forages into the home sides box.

They had one early scare when a forward was allowed to shoot from distance and the ball struck the outside of Armstrong’s post.

This was to be the only effort on target for the rest of the game as again the back four of Kerr, Phil Neil, Drake and Hamilton were rock solid. This was to be their 11th clean sheet of the season - a great return from 23 games.

They started to create chances and Carson who had a storming game in the middle of the park burst through and his effort beat the keeper but was hacked clear by a recovering defender.

Collins found space just inside the area but his effort was high and wide.McConnell broke clear then down the right and his shot come cross just evaded the outstretched leg of Stevie Neil.

About 10 minutes before the break they took the lead when Carson went down the right on another surging run leaving two players in his wake and sent in a great ball which was met by Stevie Neil on the half volley and it flashed into the net.

The second half was totally dominated by Dromara when they get a goal in front they are then hard to beat and chance after chance started to come their way.

A good through ball from McConnell broke the offside trap and Magennis latched on to it and raced through to find the corner of the net. Again another through ball found Magennis charging through on the left and he unselfishly squared for Stevie Neil for an easy finish for his second of the game and keeping up his recent goal scoring form.

Manager Gormley was able then to throw Mitchell, Devlin and Hughes on to freshen things up again.

Hughes, who has missed a few weeks through work commitments, showed that he was back in style when a ball played back to him 20 yards out was smashed into the top left hand corner, leaving the keeper rooted to the spot.

Four goals to the good, a clean sheet and three points piled the pressure on Immaculata again and with them probably being favourites for the league after three consecutive promotions and titles it was a great effort by Dromara to keep a great level of consistency all season.
