Cookstown Olympic

COOKSTOWN Olympic made the long journey to play FC Larne last Saturday and after battling terrible weather conditions managed to come away with a six four win. The match started with a sleet and then snow shower but Olympic were hot and gained the opener after 4 minutes when a Lee Mitchell corner to the back post was headed home by Conor O’Hare.

Four minutes later and the advantage was doubled as Conor O’Hare broke from midfield to the left side of the Larne box and chipped the keeper from 20 yards. Mark Loughran then got on the score sheet after 12 minutes when he rifled a shot from the edge of the box. Larne then dug their heels in and also a few rough tackles and the match turned into a midfield battle but on the stroke of half time Olympic grabbed number four when Conor O’Reilly put Mark Loughran through to round the keeper. A very strong wind then assisted Larne in the second half and they pulled two goals back within the first 10 minutes. Olympic then battled hard and managed to gain some control and scored their fifth after 73 minutes when Ryan O’Neill threaded the ball through for Conor O’Hare who completed his hat-trick easily.

Two minutes later and Larne got their third and then on 80 minutes Conor O’Reilly followed up on the keepers save to score but the official somehow saw this as offside. Olympic did score their sixth after 82 minutes as a Ryan O’Neill corner was headed past the keeper by Lee Mitchell while Larne got their fourth with three minutes left. Team: Jamie O’Neill, D Campbell, L Mullan, Jonny O’Neill, E McSloy, C O’Hare, L Mitchell, C O’Reilly, M Meenan, R McMenemy and M Loughran. Subs D McCabe, R O’Neill and M O’Hare.
