Five tries for Mark on Firsts’ debut

Having made the step up to senior rugby with some aplomb, Lurgan College student Mark McIlwaine made his debut for Lurgan Firsts on Saturday and scored five tries in the process.

With the schools’ rugby season over Mark had impressed in a couple of outing for the Seconds which earned him a call up to the Firsts for the visit of Civil Service to Pollock Park.

As well as Mark’s five tries his brother Ben also got on the scoresheet with two tires as did Dean Wilson (one try) and Stephen Nolan (six conversions and one penalty) to leave the final score 55-5 to Lurgan, meaning the home side were able to toast the victory with the Wolfhound Cup.

Lurgan have two home games against Newry and Lisburn this Saturday which are likely to be the last games for both sides this season. They’ll be followed by a players’ night out. Contact the captains for more details.

Meanwhile this Thursday at 5pm, Alwood’s showroom (off Malcolm Road) will be the venue for a special meet and greet evening with Rory Best, Ireland and Ulster Rugby Player who will be bringing the RBS Six Nations Trophy.

It is an opportunity for everyone to come along, meet Rory Best, see the Six Nations trophy and get photos and autographs.

On Friday night in the club will be a country music night with Johnny Brooks and Paula Magill.
