Ballymoney United played their first game in the Showgrounds for 15 years due to their spells in Championships 1 and 2.
Trojans dominated the opening stages of the game with attack after attack crawling all over United like ants.
Trojans were rewarded for their efforts when Barr broke down the left and hammered a low ball across the face of the Ballymoney goal and it was McFadden who had to poke in past Coyle on 17 minutes. The visitors continued to starve the home team any sort of rhythm and after a lapse of concentration in the home defence Barr slipped through and chipped Coyle to make it 2-0. Ballymoney were unlucky in the 27th minute when Cairns broke through from a good Fallon pass but was unceramonisly chopped down by Hale inside the box. Trojans attacked down the right with Cousley crossing low and hard into the six yard box and it was McFadden on the end of it on 30 mins. Ballymoney picked a few scraps from play and came close on 35 mins when Cairns broke through and unleashed a low shot across the face of Wade in the visitors goal. Trojans kept up the pressure and were unlucky on 39 mins when McFadden clipped the home post. The visitors added a fourth goal just before half time with Harkin volleying a loose ball over Coyle.

Ballymoney came out for the second half in a different frame of mind and got on top of Trojans starting the show the aggression needed at this level of football. The home team were rewarded on 50 minutes when a Fallon cross was headed past Wade in the visitors goal by Stewart. Not to be outdone Trojans dominated this period of the game but Ballymoney defended resiliently and thwarted any attacks thrown at them by the Trojans machine. It was on the hour before the visitors added to their tally with McFadden again causing the damage barging his way through and squaring to Cousley for a simple tap in for 5-1. Trojans came close on 70 mins when McFadden broke through and could only look in dismay when Coyle in the home goal tipped his ferocious drive over the bar. With time running out Gault came close from a Fallon cross. Ballymoney United will come out of this game knowing the standard they have to achieve. Final Score: Ballymoney United 1 Trojans 5
