Fit N Running members excel in various disciplines

Fit N Running athletes have had a busy and successful week of racing in various events.

Paula Wallace started the ball rolling on Monday morning when she was on the victorious North Belfast ladies team that romped to victory at the Belfast marathon relay.

Fit N Running who are associate members of North Belfast Harriers and called upon Harriers member Paul Elliot to run the 1st leg of the relay in their mens team. Making up the team were Connor McQuillan. Mark McKinstry, James Wallace and coach Gregory Walsh. The group combined well to finish among the prizes in 5th place from an overall entry of 2050 teams.

Harriers’ mixed team made it a superb treble with 1st place in their respective team race.

Fit N Running had two further relay teams in action made up of the club members who came through the recent beginners course. For most of them it was their first ever competitive outing and they all excelled on the big stage with very promising performances.

The B team of Kevin Adams, Dianne Lyttle ,Liam Gribben, Stephen Scullion and Suzie Hamil finished well inside the top 20% of teams in a fantastic 305th place in 3hrs 52mins 14secs.

The C team of Tracey Adams, Laura Currie, Stephen Phillips, James Anderson and Alison Magee were close behind as they also broke the 4 hour barrier finishing in 3 hours 58mins 19 secs. This saw them finish well up the field in 434th place.

ULSTER SCHOOLS FINALS

Twelve year old Rebecca Wallace has successfully come through the schools district qualifiers and final to secure a place in next Saturdays Ulster final over 800 metres.

In the qualifier on Tuesday Rebecca Ran a Pb of 2mins 43 secs to qualify safely in 3rd place. She kept her best however for the district final on Saturday morning in a field laced with quality. In a fast run race Rebecca produced a tactical master class to move through the field with a late kick to finish 2nd with her second big Pb in a week. She clipped an impressive 4 secs off Tuesdays time to finish in 2mins 39secs.

Connor McQuillan has also progressed to the Ulster finals in the steeple chase and the 3000meters.

Going in the 3000meters district final 2 days after Belfast Connor did enough to secure a comfortable passage through to the finals finishing in 3rd in 10mins 4 secs. In the steeple chase Connor finished in 1st place and goes through to the Ulster final.

ECOS PARK RUN

Mark McKinstry was in winning form again on Saturday morning at the Ecos Parkrun where he finished in 1st place smashing his old Parkrun time by 45secs. Mark crossed the line in 16mins 53secs.
