First hole in one for Joan at Ballycastle GC

She holed out at the third to give her the first Hole-in-One of her career and this obviously stood her in good stead as she went on to win the competition. Congratulations Joan,

Cold, wet and blustery conditions confronted competitors in the Marine Hotel Cup on Saturday 06 June. Top score of the day was 37 points which was posted by 12 handicapper Eamon Hackett.

In the dreadful conditions Eamon put together a very compact round restricting the damage on the holes he didn’t par to a maximum of one overs. The in form Ciaran Mort produced another good round with a score of 35 points which lifted the Division 1 section.

The 6 handicapper had a fine round going until he hit double trouble at the 14th and 15th and this ultimately side-lined his challenge for the premier spot.

Martin Morgan, now relieved of Ulster Cup captaincy pressures, laid claim to the Division 2 section with a score of 36 points whilst the Division 3 section winner was Adrian McCollum also with a total of 36 points. Francis Mc Ginn playing off 3 had the round of the day when he returned a nett score of 66 to clinch the Mc Gildowney Cup on Sunday 07 June. He completed the first 9 in level par and proceeded to come back in 2 under par. His score not only was sufficient to win the top prize but also won him the prize for the best gross of the day as well. For the second time in a week Allan Mc Cook was in the winners’ enclosure as he won the Division 1 section. Playing off 10 his score of 69 was just enough to beat Eamon Mc Ilroy on countback.

Division 2 winner was Paul O’ Brien with a nett 70 whilst Division 3 winner was Finnian Mc Garry who completed his round with a nasty triple bogey at the last. He returned a nett 67 & but for this he could have staged a challenge to Francis for the premier spot.
