On Saturday the 5th of September, Dalriada School’s First XI got their season underway when they travelled to Carrickfergus to play in a small tournament.
In the first, short match, Dalriada played Carrick Grammar with the Ballymoney girls finding themselves on the wrong side of a 1-0 scoreline.
Dalriada dominated both halves, with excellent play in mid-field and up front.
A string of passes were impressively strung together and were unfortunate to end in near misses and slight deflections.
During the second half of the match, Carrick succeeded in scoring a goal in a well-executed short corner, with the game ending in a 1-0 win to Carrick.
In the second match, Dalriada faced a tough Limavady Grammar side and were delighted to come away with a 1-0 win.
The mid-field players worked extremely hard to feed the ball into the circle, and late in the second Half, Sara Jamieson (Centre-Forward) scored a great goal past a heap of defenders, showing her sheer determination and perseverance, as well as her skill.
There were notable performances from Bekah Kennedy, (Left-Wing) Sara Jamieson (Centre-Forward) and Rachel Taggart (Left-Back) as well as the mid-field players’ teamwork and skill made the match a success, giving Dalriada an encouraging start to the season, especially since there were so many younger players on the team.
The team would like to thank Mrs Cleland and Miss Wharry for coaching us and travelling with us to Carrick.
