CYCLING: Great racing in Dervock

This week’s event in the Bann Wheelers’ calendar was the 25 mile Dervock Road Race, held on Tuesday 5 June.

In contrast to the weather, the racing was some of the best seen this season.

Once again, Ian Nevin paced the two groups perfectly, with the scratch group only catching the first group on the last corner of the last lap, setting up a thrilling finish. Recovering from his emotional Time Trial victory last week, and fresh from the Ras Dhun Na nGall, Nigel Quigley took the win, pipping Chris Beattie and Michael Thompson in second and third place. They were followed by Aaron Dickie (BCC), David Parke, James Thompson, Steven McAllister (BCC) and Shane McDonald. Congratulations go to Nigel on his win.

Thanks go to Robert Downes, Kieran Crawford, Kay Hack, Nigel Kerr and Sharman Crawford for keeping roads swept and everyone safe. Big thanks again to Ian Nevin for his continuing uncanny ability to pace road races.

Tuesday 12 June will see the third race in the Handicap Time Trial league with a ten mile TT on the Curragh Road course.

There was also a great result for the Wheelers at the Ballymoney CC’s InterClub race at Stranocum on Wednesday June 6th. In a field that saw teams from all over the North represented, it was Bobby Kane who took first place, with Nigel Quigley in third and Michael Thompson in 9th. It turned out to be a busy week of racing which yielded some great results-well done all!
