Rain washes away hopes of play for Carrick CC

Carrickfergus Cricket Club were beaten by the elements at the weekend and their scheduled home clash with league leaders Muckamore bit the dust.

Fourth-placed Carrick’s Middle Road ground was declared unplayable because of heavy rain and the Ulster Bank Section 1 game has been re-arranged for Sunday, September 8.

This weekend Carrick face a trip to Ballyclare to take on third-bottom Templepatrick Cricket Club. Ricky Greer’s side lost on the Duckworth-Lewis method to Cliftonville at Mallusk last weekend.

When Carrick last faced TCC in July, Mikey Taiaroa top-scored with 72, helping the local club to a total of 204 and an 18-runs victory.

Meanwhile, Carrick’s Thirds defeated Victoria CC (Lurgan) by 11 runs in their Junior 6 match on Saturday. S. Scott hit 32 runs with the bat and took two for 17. M. McIlroy too two for 18.

On Sunday the Thirds beat Saintfield by 44 runs. Carrick posted 142 for five and L. Benson top-scored with 60 runs. On the bowling front, PT Aston took four for nine as Saintfield were all out for 98.

This Friday (August 23) Carrick’s under-15s entertain Muckamore U15s in the league final. The match has a 5:30 pm start time.

On Sunday the club is set to host a Sports Quiz (6pm) followed by a disco and karaoke (8pm). Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy a what is expected to be a fun-filled evening.
