One run is enough to keep Seconds on a roll

Skipper Andrew Bingham won the toss and knowing that light would be an issue, decided to bat first. This initially seemed to be the wrong decision as Lurgan were reduced to 7 for 1 as they lost opener Hunter and were 24 for 2 as Harrison departed in the 5th over. This brought Peter Maxwell to the middle and along with Kilpatrick took the score to 87 in just 12 overs before Kilpatrick departed for 26. Peter Haire was the new batsman and like Maxwell he scored freely as the pair pushed the score to 124 before Haire was caught on the boundary for 24. Following a final flourish of runs the Lurgan innings closed on a very respectable 155 for 4 with Peter Maxwell unbeaten on 72.

With light fading, uncharacteristic bowling saw Lurgan bowl too many loose deliveries and Downpatrick found themselves on 50 for no loss after just 6 overs. Following a breakthrough from Bingham wickets then began to fall at regularly however, Downpatrick brought the score to 144 for 9. This left them requiring 12 runs to win from the final over which was bowled by Graeme Hunter. To the relief of Lurgan the final over only went for 10 runs to leave them victors by a single run.

The pick of the bowlers for Lurgan were Peter Maxwell with 4 for 20 from 4 overs and Andrew Bingham with 3 for 16 from his 4 overs.

This victory ensures Lurgan remain unbeaten in the league this season and find themselves in second place behind Downpatrick who have played three games more but have now lost twice.
