Cricket: Debut boy Rankin topscores in Ireland defeat

Ireland suffered a disappointing six wicket defeat to Scotland, in their opening T20 International Series encounter, at Bready.

Bready’s David Rankin was handed his debut in front of the home support and he shone with the bat, in fact he was Ireland’s topscorer finishing with 33 runs.

Fellow North West Warrior Stuart Thompson also did well with the bat scoring 26 runs, in Ireland’s 146.

However Matt Cross’ impressive 60 runs from 34 balls ensured Scotland coasted to victory.

The T20 encounter was the first of three between the sides at Bready; things again get underway at 5.30pm tomorrow evening and on Sunday the action starts at 2pm.

After the game, debut boy Rankin spoke to Sentinel Sport’s Editor Kevin McLaughlin.
