BALLYMONEY Ladies hockey will give it a last lash on Saturday when they have a final chance for glory this season as they seek to bring home the Ulster Shield, writes NEVIN FARRELL.

The local girls are keen to ensure the trophy has pride of place at their awards dinner in Ma Kelly’s in Ballymoney later that night.

But standing before them are old foes - Pegasus.

Ballymoney manager Liz Lamont knows her charges will have to be on top of their game to land the shield.

It is the last match of the season and she hopes they will be toasting success in what has been a term which saw them come close to achieving success elsewhere only to see the big prizes landed by others.

Lamont told the Ballymoney Times: “This is our last chance for glory and everybody will have to be at the top of their games if we are do it as we all know Pegasus are a tough team to beat.

“But our record against them this season is not bad with one win one loss and one draw. Our players are well up for this as they want to end the season on a high and want the trophy at our awards night on Saturday.”

And Ballymoney coach Mark Evans said: “I hope the girls are successful to repay the amount of effort and hard work they have put in.”

* The final will be held at Lisnagarvey Hockey Club, Hillsborough, at 2pm on Saturday May 11.
