Lee Forgrave’s second half goal was enough for Portstewart to take the points against basement club Ballymoney United on Saturday,
Ports boss Gary Taylor described the derby encounter as ‘nervy’, but added that he was glad to get the fixture over with.
“We were nervous going into the game, Ballymoney haven’t won in a number of games, and we didn’t want to be the ones to slip up against them.
“It was a good game for either side, but I felt we started the second half really well and deserved the win.”
Before Forgrave’s goal, the Ports had several chances cleared off the line.
A James Peden free kick from the half way line was swung into the box, and Forgrave volleyed home, much to the delight of the home supporters.
