Scorpion has created many champions in its 32 year history and despite the club having less than salubrious facilities, Coach Alan ‘Spike’ Martin continues to work tirelessly to ensure the club remains to the fore in local boxing and this event will be used to encourage and develop young boxers from the area.

“I have been talking to some of the coaches from Coleraine and Belfast and we agree that we need to work together to bring on some of these young lads who are coming through.

“We have a bit of talent in this group and it is important to encourage them and bring them on and that’s why fight nights like this are important.

“The young lads get the opportunity to put their uniforms on and fight in front of an audience and that helps to develop them as fighters.

“Things are looking good for the future at the club. Despite the issue we have with the poor facilities here we are fighting for every grant under the sun to try and improve things. We have also done some work ourselves to show how willing we are to make the effort and we have had a crop of new lads start with us.

“Hopefully we will get a good turnout on the night. It’s important that as many people as possible come along and encourage these young boxers.

“We also have a special bout when Santa will take on the Grinch so hopefully adding a bit of fun to the occasion.”
