Ballymena too strong for tourists

DARTFORDIANS, an English side on their Easter tour, came to Eaton Park on Saturday and after a very sporting encounter, a Ballymena Select XV ran out easy winners by 62 points to seven.

It’s very difficult to gauge the strength of a touring side so Ballymena had a team out which covered the whole spectrum of the club.

John Andrews and Andy Graham, representing the elder members of the club, played a half each; Matthew McBride, Camille Delpy, Pumolo Banda, David Whann and George Dennison, all members of the successful Ballymena Academy cup winning side, will hopefully be the future of the club; and a sprinkling of players with first, second and third team experience completed the line-up.

The visitors had a mixed bag which included young and experienced players. There were five teenagers who were on their first tour and there were a few players whom you could say were veterans of a few tours.

Everybody seemed to enjoy themselves, the banter was good and everybody looked forward to the “apres-rugby” in the bar.
