Young People Go BOG Jumping

Funded by the Causeway Cross Border Exchange Programme and Lergas in the Republic, this second exchange residential has allowed the young people aged 17-21 years old to further develop the relationships they made when they met for the first time over the Easter period earlier this year when the group from Drogheda visited the groups in County Antrim.

Arriving in the accommodation at the Slane Farm Hostel on the Sunday allowed the young people to catch up with the young people from Drogheda and to discuss the upcoming residential. The combined groups had the opportunity to work together in groupwork situations and also take part in other activities such as Go Karting, High Level Ropes course.

During the residential the young people had the opportunity to visit historical sites just outside Drogheda these included the Boyne Visitors Centre, the Heritage site at Knowth which is part of the New Grange complex. Other sites they visited included Dublin Zoo after an eye opening visit to Kilmainham Jail. Another interesting visit they undertook was having the opportunity to be shown around Slane Castle, hearing about the history of the castle and all about the famous characters who have stayed over in the castle.

A rather ‘messy but fun aspect to the residential was the visit to Causey farm where the young people had the opportunity to milk a cow by hand, try their hand at Ceilidh dancing, followed by the opportunity to get messy by taking part in ‘Bog jumping’, where the young people jumped into liquid turf ending up chest deep and having more fun trying to get out.
