Young Democrats at youth breakfast

Young Democrats from North Antrim joined others from across Northern Ireland at a youth breakfast hosted by Ian Paisley MP at the DUP Conference recently.

Members heard from young party representatives including Gordon Lyons MLA, Gary Middleton MLA, Ald Carla Lockhart and Paul Givan MLA. Each of them spoke about how they became involved in politics and the work they do.

The speakers gave some words of advice to those considering following in their footsteps, including the need to stay true to the party’s values and work hard for the people that elect them all the time, not just at election time. Sporting legend Liam Beckett also offered some words of encouragement.

Later in the morning, Timothy McLean and Emma McIlveen had the opportunity to address delegates in the main conference hall. As the DUP continue to secure a better future for the next generation, the Young Democrats pledge to support their representatives and to nurture the talent within its ranks.

North Antrim Young Democrats were established earlier this year and hold a variety of political and social events throughout the year. If you are under 30 and would like to get involved, you can contact us by email: or on Twitter: @NorthAntrimYD.
